Lake Springfield History Hunt at Lincoln Library

October 23, 2025

The Lake Springfield History Hunt is a self-guided adventure through the archives at Sangamon Valley Collection in Lincoln Library. You’ll dive into Lake Springfield's past using everything from old newspapers and photos to maps and digital databases. Each clue helps you uncover a new piece of Lake Springfield’s story — and complete your official checklist!

Here’s how to participate:

Step 1: Start Your Search
Head to the Sangamon Valley Collection on the third floor of Lincoln Library, 326 S. 7th Street in Springfield. Ask a staff member for your official Lake Springfield History Hunt Checklist to get started.

Step 2: Explore and Discover
Use the resources available — computers, books, maps, historic photos, and more — to complete your list. Need a hint? Library staff are happy to point you in the right direction.

Step 3: Turn In & Win!
Once you’ve finished your checklist, please return it to a Sangamon Valley Collection staff member. The first 100 participants to complete the hunt will receive a free pair of CWLP Summer Fun sunglasses!

This activity is open to all ages, and younger explorers (under 14) are encouraged to bring a parent or guardian along.

So, grab your checklist, channel your inner detective, and celebrate 90 years of Lake Springfield by uncovering the stories that make it a special part of our community.
